Girl meets the man who saved her from near drowning

 - An 11-year-old girl had an emotional reunion with the man who saved her life when he pulled out from the bottom of a pool in Hopkins.

“It was a normal day, I never knew anything was going to happen,” said 11-year-old Leslie Weatherspoon.  Weatherspoon doesn't remember much about August 9. It was supposed to be her last day in Minnesota before returning home to her mother in Virginia.  Instead, it became the day her cousin found her at the bottom of an eight-foot pool at Creekwood Apartments in Hopkins.  “She always stays in the shallow part. How she got down there... nobody knows,” said Weatherspoon’s mother Monica Summerville.

Earl Landry works on the maintenance team at the apartment complex and jumped into the eight feet of water and pulled Weatherspoon out. The former firefighter quickly started CPR until first responders arrived. He's been anxiously waiting to see Weatherspoon make fully recovered ever since.  “I'm just happy everything worked out,” said Landry.

Between the gifts and cake, Weatherspoon and her family came to meet Landry for the first time and thank Hopkins Police as well. Officer Jessica Thomas was first on scene, she called Summerville in Virginia, informed her what had happened to her daughter, and coordinated a comped flight on Sun Country Airlines to get her to Minnesota that night.
